If you’re a designer and a fan of open source software Libre Graphics Meeting 2008 held this year in Wrocław, Poland is the place you need to be from 8th to 11th of May!
I myself use Blender and Gimp in everyday work and I also have usage for Inkscape and other smaller OSS. It seems that there will be two events about Blender this year - one about Apricot project (free and open source game developed using Blender and Crystal Space linked to Peach / Big Buck Bunny short) and the other will be 3d workshop with Blender.
